lncreasing Your Personal Power

Hello Everyone

Some of you children will be starting new school this autumn.  For some children the thought of going to a new school is terrifying.

People need to face doing new things all their life and it is easier to do this if you have self-confidence.

You can take your self-confidence with you when you go to a new place.

So how do you get self-confidence?

lt can very often come from facing fears and then overcoming them by just simply doing the thing we fear.

This is an uncomfortable process sometimes, but it is how we grow.

ln order to grow yourself, there are some things you can do to help yourself.

People that look strong to other people, are more likely to be respected, and don’t get picked on.

ONE

You can strengthen your body by eating a nutritious diet – this means eating things that come from a field rather than a factory.

TWO

Get fit through doing different kinds of exercises.

THREE

Listen to music and dance.

FOUR

Learn how to meditate and contemplate so that you can calm your brain when you need to.

FlVE

Keep talking to yourself and telling yourself you are awesome in lots of different ways.  Keep telling yourself and brainwashing yourself and it will become your truth. Be your own cheerleader.

SlX

Learn about the new place you are going to so that you can visualize yourself being there before you are physically there.

SEVEN

You might be able to buddy up with a friend or neighbour so that you don’t have to walk into the playground and the school alone on that first day.

ElGHT

Make sure you are kitted out with everything you need when you go to school.  Put your timetable up in your bedroom so that you can remind yourself when you need to take special things like your PE kit.

NlNE

Know that if your first day does not go well or it feels strange to be in a new place, you will get used to your new surrounding in the days to follow.  You just need to tough it out.

TEN

lf there is anything you don’t understand, or you get lost, just ask for help.

And helping others when you can, often increases your self-worth.

ELEVEN

Put your shoulders back; walk tall.  Sit up straight.

TWELVE

Remember that if you were unhappy for any reason in an old school or any other place in the past – history will not necessarily repeat itself; and in fact it is not likely to.

You have a chance to start again and reinvent yourself and your life.

Bye bye everyone – don’t forget to subscribe to my blog!

Love and kisses

This week, I was looking after Bill, Bob, Henry and Emily, but I had a job that I wanted to do as well.

So I thought, why not kill two birds with one stone!

This is a bit of an unfortunate phrase actually; because what I wanted to do, was make some bird boxes.

And at the same time, I thought that I could teach the children some simple woodworking skills on some items that would still be okay if they were a little bit wonky.

Some while back, I put some bird nesting boxes up in my Auntie Alice’s garden and in the woods behind her cottage too.

I drew myself a little map of where I left them so I could remind myself where they all were and they would not get forgotten about.

The nest boxes were also numbered to help us tick them off a list when we checked on them in late autumn.

We do this every November when we have some fine weather to go for a nice long walk in.

We check that nobody is using the nest box first.  This could be a mouse or a bat.  We gingerly lift the lid at the top and have a peek inside.

If there is nobody home – and the baby birds that grew up in the box are long-gone – we clean out the debris left inside so that a bird can start building a new nest in there in the spring.

There is a metal plate around each hole to stop woodpeckers getting at baby birds inside, and most of the boxes last well from year to year.

We check to make sure that the boxes are in good order, and if any might have rotted away or got damaged they can be replaced.

But they cannot be replaced unless I have made some new ones as replacements!

We will put all the boxes up we made anyway, because since some of the undergrowth in the woods was cleared away this spring, there are more trunks we can access by ladder.

Of course, when we finished making the boxes, the children did not want to just put a number on each of them, they wanted to put a name on as well.

These are the ones they thought of:-

Feather Towers

Twin Beaks

Love Nest

Glory Hole

Top Hole

Nineteenth Hole

Pigeon Hole

Chatter Box

Holey Shed

Box Room

Sleepy Hollow

Egg Bed

HOW TO MAKE LOLLY STlCK PUPPETS

Bill, Bob and Emily like making puppets and putting on a show above the back of an arm chair.

Auntie Alice has plenty of room for doing that in her living room.

The children have found a new way of doing this.

They make characters out of felt or paper and stick them onto a stick so that they can stand up straight.

You can write a script and learn the lines of the character you are holding – then when you are hiding behind an armchair, you can check your script if you forget your lines.

You can put on a play with a story you know well…

Or you can put on a play with a story you have made up yourself.

The characters can be characters that everyone knows or you can make up your own.
