Kindness

Hello Everyone

Wow! Welcome to my 500th blog post!!!

Most bloggers don’t make it this far.

l thought that l would pick a really lovely topic for this special post and so l thought l would pick the topic of kindness.

lt is something the world needs more of, isn’t it?

When you watch the news, it often makes you think that the world is a harsh place to live in.  But the news is the exceptional of what happens from day to day, not the norm, which is why it stands out as being different.

The truth, although it may not seem like it at times, is that we live in a time that is safer than ever in human history.

Life can sometimes be tough, and the least we can do is be kind to each other to try and balance things out as best we can.

lf you don’t really like someone; at least don’t be mean to them – just leave them alone.

We can be kind to the people we know, and we can give a random acts of kindness to strangers in order to give them a lift that day.

Kindness is contagious. That means it spreads through social networks just like fear and violence does.  Which is a better one to choose?

lf someone is kind to you, you want to repay the favour to them or someone else.

What goes around comes around.  Your kindness may well come back to you in some form or another later on. lf everyone was giving out kindness, we would all be getting it!

Scientists have found that people who are kind are all of the following:-

They have less depression and suicide because they are connecting to the world in a positive way.

They have less involvement in risky behaviour because they have less destructive patterns of behaviour and more giving and generous ones.

They have increased self esteem because you grow inside when you are kind to someone; you can actually feel this sensation in your body.

They are happier, more engaged and cope better with the world.

They relate better to people in social situations.

People are more drawn to them in a positive way because they seem to be a good friend to have.

They are less likely to fail in school.  They have more friends who will support them in lots of different ways.

Being kind of course, is helping people with the things they want help with or giving them things they really need.

lt is giving to them in a way that is good for them rather than what you think they need.

That is to say not working to your own agenda – trying to get what you want from them rather than giving something that would genuinely make them happy.

Tell me about something that you did this week that was a kind action…

lf you like my blog, please support it by telling all your friends and followers about it.

Thank you!

And see you again next Fun Friday!

Love and kisses

Bill and Bob’s Joke of the Weekjokejoke

Bob:  A boy goes home at the end of term and his dad asks him for his school report.  But the boy says he doesn’t have it.  So his dad asks him where it is.

Bill:  So where was it?

Bob:  He told his dad that gave it to another kid so that he could scare his parents!

This week, the children at the Rocky Bay Primary School had an evacuation drill.

It was only a practice drill and there was no real emergency but it still had to be taken seriously.

Most schools have a practice drill every term.  It is usually carried out on a dry day so people do not have to stand out in the rain.  The people in charge of the school can see whether the evacuation worked well.  The children can learn how to evacuate the building without being in a panic.

The alarm might be a siren or a bell.  You must learn what it sounds like and what it means.

You might have to leave your bags and coats behind if it takes too long to go and find them.  The most important thing is to get out of the building by the nearest exit as quickly as you can without pushing and scrambling and then make your way to a point where you are supposed to gather in a straight line in front of your teacher.

The place where your class will assemble outside is called a muster point or an assembly point.

Your teacher will call the register and make sure that everyone that came to school that morning is now safely outside.

You must keep completely silent as you leave the building and when you wait outside too.

Listen for your name when the teacher calls the register, and answer back quickly to give your teacher all the cooperation she needs.

You can tell the teacher if there is something wrong, like if you saw a member of your class slip over inside and then did not come outside with the other children.

You must stay away from windows and kitchens which might have gas in them.

You should not block entrances to the school so that emergency services can get to the building and anyone who might need help.

Sometimes an alarm might be triggered accidentally by a workman or caretaker.  You will never know whether an alarm is a practice or for real so you must always treat it as real.

You must never set an alarm off as a joke.

In some countries, alarms in schools might not be to raise the alarm because a fire has broken out but to set off an earthquake drill.

The children in class must get under their desks as quickly as possible.

Earthquakes can set off fires so children are taught to get themselves out of the building as well.  Little children can have earthquake drills very month.  You are not supposed to get out from under your desk until you have the signal to do so.

If you are outside when an earthquake hits you should curl into a ball on the ground away from buildings, walls and trees.

If there is a tsunami coming you must get up as high as you can to get above water level.

If a tornado is coming you should go to a shelter and secure yourself inside.  If you can’t do that, lie flat on the ground.

Moving quickly, quietly and sensibly is essential when you are in an emergency situation.

You should not walk through doorways in the middle of an earthquake

HOW TO MAKE A PATTERNED BEANlE

If you need a new hat for this winter, this beanie would be very pretty in any colour.

This hat should fit an adult or a large child.

If your head is small, just turn the ribbing up.

If your head is very small, cast on 38 stitches and follow the pattern but knit 20 rows of stocking stitch instead of 30 rows.

HAT (KNIT TWO)

Using 4mm knitting needles and pink dk yarn cast on 54 stitches

Slip 1 (knit 2, purl 2) repeat the last 4 stitches until 1 stitch remains, purl 1

Repeat the last row 7 times

Knit 4 rows of stocking stitch

Slip 1 (knit 1, purl 1) repeat the last 2 stitches until 1 stitch remains, purl 1

Repeat the last row 3 times

Slip 1 (purl 1, knit 1) repeat the last 2 stitches until 1 stitch remains, purl 1

Repeat the last row 3 times

Repeat the last 8 rows once

Knit 30 rows of stocking stitch

Don’t cast off – leave a length of yarn for sewing up when you cut off your yarn and leave your stitches on this yarn

TO MAKE UP

Pull the top of the hat in and sew the sides seams up using over-sew stitching with right sides together
